Chemistry and Engineering among top performing universities

Positive results for FAU in the Shanghai ranking

According to the Academic Ranking of World Universities – better known as the Shanghai ranking – FAU is one of the best 14 German universities. In the areas of engineering, technology and computer science, it is even the second best university in Germany, moving up one place in the ranking compared to last year.

In chemistry and engineering, in particular, FAU is among the top performing universities worldwide. It is listed among the best 75 universities for chemistry in the world, taking place seven in Germany. In engineering, FAU is among the top 100 performing universities in the world and the second best university in Germany. Engineering did particularly well with regard to the number of publications in renowned journals. No other university in Germany was as successful as FAU in this category.

In the natural sciences, FAU is ranked among the top 150 universities and in clinical medicine among the 200 best universities worldwide. Compared to the previous year, both subjects maintained their position. In the overall ranking, FAU is listed among the 300 most prestigious universities in the world.

The Academic Ranking of World Universities has been published on an annual basis by the Shanghai Jiao Tong University since 2003. The universities are ranked using indicators such as the number of highly cited researchers selected by Thomson Reuters, the number of prizes won, and the number of articles published in renowned journals such as Nature and Science. Overall, 1200 universities were evaluated.
