Great success in the international publication rankings

FAU researchers rank among the most-cited academics in Germany

The work carried out by scientists at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) enjoys great recognition within the international research community. Such is the conclusion of the current Taiwan Performance Ranking of Scientific Papers for World Universities which has just been published. These rankings record scientific publications and, more importantly, how frequently they are cited internationally. And according to their figures, FAU takes 7th place in Germany and 146th place when compared with its international counterparts. Furthermore, the university ranks among the top 10 German universities for the majority of research fields and individual disciplines under assessment.

These rankings demonstrate that the extensive efforts being made by the FAU to drive forward cutting-edge research are paying off. The rankings also reflect an impressive number of publications by FAU researchers in internationally renowned specialist publications.

In an international comparison of individual disciplines, chemistry and materials science ranked extremely well, taking 50th and 74th place respectively. In comparison with other German institutions, chemistry (2nd), IT (2nd), materials science (3rd), electrical engineering (5th), mechanical engineering (7th) and physics (10th) came out best.

In a comparison of research fields, the Taiwan Performance Ranking of Scientific Papers shows that engineering, the natural sciences and medicine are amongst the winners in Germany – engineering (incl. IT) achieved 4th place in the rankings, the natural sciences were placed 5th and clinical medicine took 10th place.
