FAU in top position among German universities

Academic excellence can be assessed by how often university publications are cited. This is the basis of the annual Leiden Crown ranking of top universities. FAU can truly be proud of its position in this year’s ranking: in Germany, FAU ranks fourth amongst the universities whose publications belong to the top 10 percent of the most frequently cited publications – leaving other universities such as KIT, Humboldt Universität Berlin and the University of Heidelberg behind.

On a European level, FAU still belongs to the top 40. FAU also holds its own with regard to other criteria, demonstrated by a remarkable sixth place in Germany for the total number of publications. Overall, not only FAU but German universities in general received outstanding ratings. With regard to the top 500 universities worldwide, Germany achieved rank 2, closely behind the United States and relegating the United Kingdom to a position behind. From a European perspective, the prospects for the future also look promising: Europe has the largest share of the top 500 at 43.7 percent with 222 universities, followed by the US in second position.
