A festive occasion: the University's summer ball in Erlangen

FAU’s Schlossgartenfest, one of the largest and most beautiful garden parties in Europe, will take place for the 61st time this year. For the new FAU President Prof. Dr. Joachim Hornegger it will be the first time opening the event. Approximately 6500 guests are expected, including students, members and friends of FAU, as well as high-profile guests from politics, industry and academia. The Schlossgarten will open its gates at 6.30 p.m. and the party will officially start at 8 p.m.

Programme

The opening of the party will be accompanied by the University’s Big Band. The Oldies Big Band, the Showband Picobello, the Keller Mountain Blues Band and the Reinhard Stockmann Band will perform on the four dance floors. In the Schloss, the Thomas Fink Trio will entertain guests with lounge music. One of the event’s highlights will be the duets and love arias by Antonin Dvořak, Giacomo Puccini, Leonard Bernstein and Franz Lehar performed by the three opera stars Gunta Cese, David Yim and Csilla Csövari who will be accompanied by the pianist Andreas Paetzold at 10 p.m.. These performances will be followed by the annual fireworks.

Thousands of lights and light installations designed by the students of Coburg University of Applied Sciences and Arts and the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light will create a romantic atmosphere in the Schlossgarten. Kollegienhaus will be illuminated by imaginative scenes from musicals and theatre designed by the light architect Andreas Hauslaib. Stephan Güthlein invites guests to take a romantic ride through the Schlossgarten in the classic Opel Laubfrosch from 1928.

Like every year, we will be collecting donations for a good cause: the proceeds from the sale of the lanterns and fans and from the classic car ride will be donated to FAU’s Förderverein Familien und Wissenschaft.

Catering will be provided by Norbert Nägel from Schloss Atzelsberg, as well as by Partyservice Bachmann, Gasthof Güthlein, Bauernhof Höfler, Gulden Brezen, Macaron Patisserie and Pralinen und mehr, offering a large variety of food and drinks. Furthermore, there will be beer, champagne, cocktail and coffee bars throughout the Schlossgarten and a special whiskey bar with a cigar lounge. The Schlossgartenfest programme is available at www.schlossgartenfest.de.
