FAU makes it into top 200 universities worldwide

A great success for FAU: in the current Academic Ranking of World Universities, also known as the Shanghai Ranking, the University is ranked at number 11 in Germany – three places higher than last year. FAU has also gone up in the international ranking, making it into the top 200 universities worldwide at number 171 (compared to number 206 in 2015). This is the University’s best result since the Shanghai Ranking was established in 2003.

Number 1 in Germany for materials science

This year, in addition to its ranking of universities, Shanghai Jiao Tong University has also published a subject ranking for engineering based on a new methodology. FAU also performed excellently in this comparison, ranking among the top 100 in the world in five of the six subjects evaluated. On the national level, the University is number one for materials science and engineering. Chemical engineering and electrical engineering are both ranked at number three in Germany, while mechanical engineering, and energy science and engineering are each ranked at number four nationally.

The Academic Ranking of World Universities has been published on an annual basis by the Shanghai Jiao Tong University since 2003. The universities are ranked using indicators such as the number of highly cited researchers selected by Thomson Reuters, the number of prizes won, and the number of articles published in renowned journals such as Nature and Science. Overall, 1200 universities were evaluated.
