FAU one of top 20 universities in German in the QS World University Ranking

Continued success for FAU: after the excellent results in the Shanghai Ranking, which rated FAU among the top 200 universities in the world for the first time, the University has also been ranked highly in the QS World University Ranking. FAU is number 20 in the world – and number 1 in Germany – for the prestigious indicator ‘citations per faculty’.

In 2016, the education information service provider Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), an established compiler of global higher education rankings, compared 916 universities from around the world. FAU has maintained its position at the top of the national table in terms of the number of citations of its academic publications and is under the top 5 percent in the world for the same indicator.

The University has gone up in the national comparison for three indicators and advanced to rank 18 in the overall comparison of German universities. It is now at number 21 (2015: 32) for ‘reputation’ and number 28 (2015: 33) for ‘international student ratio’. FAU has maintained its placing from last year for the indicators ’employer reputation’ (rank 22) and ‘student-to-faculty ratio’ (rank 43).

Since 2004, the QS World University Ranking has compared universities from around the globe in terms of their reputation among researchers and employers, number of citations per researcher, student-to-faculty ratio, and the percentage of international students and staff. The British service provider QS uses a mixture of statistics and surveys of researchers and HR managers to compile its ranking, which is dominated by US and British universities.
