FAU ranks among the 150 best in research

In the annual Times Higher Education World University Ranking, FAU was listed among the top 200 universities for 2018. FAU ranked 162 of over 1100 universities internationally and reached 18th position in Germany. The University also performed excellently in all other areas of the ranking.

For example, FAU ranked 148 in research among the 150 best universities in the world and even climbed to 39 in the area of third-party funding. In comparison to last year, FAU improved its position by a further eleven places in the internationalisation section.

The World University Ranking has been published since 2004.  It is compiled in collaboration with Elsevier and counts as one of the most influential international university rankings beside the QS World University Ranking and the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU). In the current edition, 1102 universities were evaluated based on 13 indicators relevant to teaching, research, citations, third-party funding and international outlook.

Teaching quality, citation frequency in scientific publications, and research each count towards 30 per cent of the ranking score. The remaining 10 percent consists of criteria relating to third-party funding and international outlook.
