The 2018 anniversary celebrations of FAU are to be inaugurated with a two-day symposium

In 2018, Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) will be celebrating its 275th anniversary. Over the past 275 years, people of all ages, backgrounds and ambitions have dedicated themselves to teaching, studying and research at FAU, all of whom have contributed to creating knowledge that continues to evolve dynamically. This surely deserves a whole year’s worth of celebrations – not just an event on a single day. So let us take the opportunity to together honour not just FAU, but also knowledge and research. A programme of events as diverse as FAU itself awaits us in 2018 on the theme of Wissen in Bewegung – knowledge in motion – and this will provide us with a wealth of opportunities to experience and salute scholarship and extend our own awareness.

We look forward to this chance to mark this anniversary with all students, researchers, employees and friends of FAU!

Don’t forget to register!

FAU’s anniversary celebrations will kick off on 18 and 19 January 2018 with a two-day symposium entitled ‘The Future of Research – Research of the Future’. In addition to talks that are to be given by various speakers, there will also be a public lecture by former astronaut Thomas Reiter, who is currently the Interagency Coordinator of the European Space Agency (ESA). Following the symposium, the university orchestra will be performing a celebratory anniversary concert in St. Matthäus church in Erlangen during which there will be the premier of a cantata especially composed to mark the 275th birthday of FAU.
