Top marks for studying at FAU

FAU has once again performed excellently in the Centre for Higher Education’s (CHE) current university ranking. The subjects biology, chemistry, geography, geosciences, computer science, mathematics, pharmacy, physics, political science, medicine and dentistry were assessed. The overall result shows that students are happy with studying at FAU.

All degree programmes which were assessed scored particularly well in support for students just starting out with their studies and the number of students who completed their degree programme within a reasonable time. In addition, chemistry, geography and geosciences were awarded particularly high marks in the category of contact with the work environment during the Master’s degree programme and both physics and sport or sport science scored highly thanks to their strong international focus. FAU also excelled in the area of research. The subjects mathematics and sport or sport science received top marks in the category funding per researcher, and the degree programmes in geography, computer science and dentistry for the number of publications per researcher.

On the whole, the students themselves gave all degree programmes a positive assessment. The degree programmes in geography and physics stood out in particular. Students gave them top marks for studying conditions, subjects offered and support during studies. Geography was also praised for the categories of support during studies, examinations and library facilities.

The CHE ranking

The CHE collects data for its university ranking once a year. One third of the subjects are re-evaluated each time. Information from more than 300 universities and institutes of higher education in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Netherlands is incorporated into the ranking. In addition to data on studying, teaching, equipment and research, the ranking also includes assessments by students regarding the study situation as well as the reputation of the subject areas among the professors of individual subjects.
