Great leap forward in international Reuters innovation ranking

When it comes to innovation, Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) is a world leader. According to the latest ranking from the media concern Reuters, the University is still at the top in Germany, and ranked at an excellent 31st position worldwide. This is a considerable improvement over last year.

The three most innovative universities in the world according to the Reuters ranking are Stanford, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Harvard. Listed at place 31, FAU is the first German university in the ranking, before well-known names such as Yale, Oxford or ETH Zürich. This is a huge leap forward over last year, when FAU was ranked 50th in the world.

After consistently coming in second in Germany in recent years, FAU managed to make it to the very top in the European rankings at the beginning of the year, and has now successfully defended its excellent national position.

The ranking from the US-Canadian media concern Reuters measures innovation on the basis of ten different factors including the number of publications, patent applications and collaborations with industry. FAU conducts research in collaboration with major international companies such as Siemens, Schaeffler and adidas. Joint projects explore issues such as renewable energies, health, medical technologies and future materials.
