The University performed well in all areas of the ranking, consolidating its very good ranking from the year before (place 175), but did particularly well in the area of research, where it was ranked at place 150. In the area of industry income, FAU rose seven places to finish 60th.

FAU was particularly successful in the area of engineering and technology, where it was ranked 94th in the world. Positive results were also obtained for computer science (place 101–125), life sciences and physical sciences (place 151–175) and business & economics (place 176–200).

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings has been published annually since 2004.  It is compiled in collaboration with Elsevier and counts as one of the most influential international university rankings beside the QS World University Ranking and the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU). As in previous years, the participating universities were evaluated on the basis of 13 indicators from the core areas of teaching, research, citations, industry income and international outlook.

The complete ranking for FAU is available on the Times Higher Education website.
