Ethical challenges

The coronavirus pandemic is not only a challenging time for healthcare services – society is also now facing some ethical issues. Professor Dr. Peter Dabrock, Chair of Systematic Theology II (Ethics) at FAU and chairperson of the German Ethics Council, has been investigating these issues. The German Ethics Council published its ad-hoc recommendation ‘Solidarity and Responsibility during the Coronavirus Crisis’ on 27 March 2020. In an interview with FAU President Prof. Dr. Joachim Hornegger, Prof. Dabrock talks about the cooperation between scientists, who have an advisory role, and politicians, who are responsible for taking decisions (9 min. 6 sec.), about the level of civilisation and solidarity during the coronavirus crisis (13 min. 13. sec) and about triage – how do doctors decide which patients are put on a ventilator in a crisis? (19 min. 24 sec.)
