FAU President’s Welcome Award to promote young AI researchers from around the world

Artificial intelligence is the technology of the future – and great talent in this area is truly sought after. “Currently, there’s a tough international competition going on when it comes to recruiting bright minds,” says FAU president Joachim Hornegger. It is why the idea of the FAU President’s Welcome Award came up. He is convinced, “This award will make it even more appealing for young, international talent to come live in Erlangen for their research.”

Originally, the project was scheduled for 2020 but had to be postponed due to the pandemic. Luckily, prospects can now finally apply for the award programme. It is a prerequisite to additionally apply for a PhD position in the field of AI in medicine at FAU. As part of a new special research area, there are currently 23 positions open, see http://empkins.de/open-positions/.

Aside from being mentored by the FAU president on a regular basis, the winners will be able to connect with research and business partners, receive German language courses, and can enjoy one-year housing for free in the modern “Brucklyn” complex – thanks to the Brucklyn’s generous support. And this is not the end of it.
