Visiting Prof. Dr. Caroline J. Voskens, Professorship for Translational Immunodermatology

Each semester, FAU President Prof. Dr. Joachim Hornegger visits professors who are new to FAU. He visits them in their institutions to talk about their research, to discover what is close to their heart and to get to know them better.

Our series introduces you to the researchers and gives an impression of the President’s meeting with them.

In episode 20, the President visits Prof. Dr. Caroline J. Voskens. She holds the Professorship for Translational Immunodermatology.

Caroline Voskens’ research focuses on natural killer cells that can be used in the treatment of cancers, and regulatory T-cells that can be used in the treatment of autoimmune diseases.

Voskens is fascinated by the fact that the human body can defend itself so well when it is healthy, and yet this defense mechanism fails in cancers and autoimmune diseases.

She worked at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, USA, in her previous position.
