Visiting Prof. Dr. Franziska Mathis-Ullrich, Robotic Planning and Cognition in Surgery

Each semester, FAU President Prof. Dr. Joachim Hornegger visits professors who are new to FAU. He visits them in their institutions to talk about their research, to discover what is close to their heart and to get to know them better.

Our series introduces you to the researchers and gives an impression of the President’s meeting with them.

In episode 21, the President visits Prof. Dr. Franziska Mathis-Ullrich. She has the Professorship for Robotic Planning and Cognition in Surgery.

Franziska Mathis-Ullrich focuses on expanding the area of application of modern surgical robotics in order to achieve an accurate and effective diagnosis, treatment and support for patients.

Robots have always held a certain fascination for Prof. Mathis-Ullrich. She is convinced that the positive influence that these intelligent machines have on human health care will increase in future.

Before coming to FAU in 2023, Franziska Mathis-Ullrich was a professor at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.

Inspired by her grandfather, she decided to become a mechanical engineer when she was seven years old.
