MSc Chemical and Biological Engineering

MSc Chemical and Biological Engineering

Chemical and Biological Engineering (CBI) deals with the modification of substances through chemical, physical and biological processes. The programme serves as a link between chemistry and biology, machinery and plant engineering. The main objective of chemical and bioengineers is the implementation of processes developed in the laboratory for changing substances (e.g. syntheses) on a production scale/into existing production processes.

This four-semester Master’s programme is aimed at educating engineers for careers in chemical, petrochemical and pharmaceutical industry, in biological and environmental process technology, in the energy sector and at preparing them for the complex tasks in these fields. A balance between practice and theory is achieved in a curriculum including modern topics from current research and by close cooperation with the relevant industries. Another possibility is to continue one’s education at University by pursuing a PhD in biological or chemical engineering.

The programme aims for subject breadth, as chemical and biological engineering is a cross-sectional engineering discipline, as well as subject depth to allow students to specialise individually. With few compulsory modules and a large number of elective options at their disposal, students are allowed to choose their own tailor-made programme suited to their individual interests.

The programme is accredited. For the application, German and English language skills at level B2 are required.
