MSc Chemical Engineering – Sustainable Chemical Technologies (CEN)

The study programme Chemical Engineering – Sustainable Chemical Technologies (CEN) focuses on the use of material resources as well as their conversion without harming future generations. The idea of sustainability is implemented through the whole study programme and thus the graduates are enabled to develop efficient solutions to problems along the entire life cycle of a product, e.g. through new processes in chemical production, through energy and raw material savings or through research and development.

The four-semester Master’s programme provides comprehensive scientific methodology as well as in-depth knowledge in the field of chemical engineering. The curriculum includes specialisation and elective modules, a three-week project course, a twelve-week industrial internship and the six-month Master’s thesis.

In addition to acquiring specialist competencies in sustainable chemical technologies, students deepen their comprehensive knowledge in three further, selectable core areas of CEN. An individual orientation is possible by the choice of elective modules, which can be selected from a wide range of current, innovative, research-oriented topics.

This Master’s programme is aimed at educating engineers for careers in the chemical, petrochemical, food, automotive, metal and synthetic materials industry, in the waste management industry and in the energy sector and at preparing them for complex tasks in these fields. Other possibilities include consulting and auditing, jobs in associations and public corporations or public and private research institutes (project management, fundamental research). Another possibility is to continue one’s education at University by pursuing a PhD in sustainable chemical and process engineering.

The programme is accredited. For the application, German and English language skills at level B2 are required.
