Our courses for asylum seekers
Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) offers several opportunities to refugees and asylum seekers based in the Erlangen/Nuremberg/Fürth region who would like to study at FAU.
Orientation course: information on access to university study for refugees and asylum seekers (German and English)

Requirements:
- German language proficiency at level B1 is required for the language course for refugees and asylum seekers preparing to study; German language proficiency at level B2 if required if wishing to study a degree programme taught in German
- English language proficiency at level B2 is required if wishing to study a Master’s degree programme taught in English
- Applicants must meet formal requirements for university study (university entrance qualification/Abitur, several semesters completed at a university in their home country)
- Applicants must have asylum seeker or refugee status

Course:
German language course for refugees and asylum seekers preparing to study, fees are charged, 20 hours per week
Requirements:
- Applicants must meet formal requirements for university study (university entrance qualification/Abitur, several semesters completed at a university in their home country)
- German language proficiency: level B1

Requirements:
- Applicants must meet formal requirements for university study (university entrance qualification/Abitur, several semesters completed at a university in their home country)
- Good basic knowledge of German and English (B1)
- An individual consultation session with the Student Advice and Career Service is required beforehand

Evening courses in German, A2- B2, 8 hours per week
Requirements:
- Applicants must meet formal requirements for university study (university entrance qualification/Abitur, several semesters completed at a university in their home country)
- Confirmation of participation in FAU’s project for refugees is required
- German language proficiency: from level A2

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) reported that refugees are able to take part in German courses, taster courses, tutorials on preparing to study in Germany or a tandem project at FAU in its article ‘Opportunities for refugees at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg’ (in German only).
