Applications

The application deadline for stays in the 1st and 2nd semester of the Latin American academic year 2021 is July 15, 2020.

Applications should be submitted online. The application procedure is explained under application documents.

The Latin American exchange programme is open to all students at FAU.

The requirements for taking part in the exchange are as follows:

  • You are enrolled at FAU.
  • You remain enrolled at FAU whilst you are abroad.
  • At the time of application you have not yet exceeded the regular duration of study for your degree programme.
  • Students enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree programme are required to have completed at least two semesters and passed the preliminary examination (GOP) before starting to study in Latin America.
  • You have a good knowledge of Spanish or Portuguese (at least level A2; for some partner universities at least level B2).
  • It is possible for you to be admitted to a degree programme in a suitable subject at the host university in Latin America.

Places in the Latin American exchange programme are advertised twice a year:
  • First application deadline: mid/end June
  • Second application deadline: mid/end January (only places which are still available after the first application deadline has passed; applications only possible for an exchange in the 2nd semester in Latin America)

Procedure:

  1. Please apply online via the given link. You may state your preference for up to three host universities in your application.
  2. The selection committee checks all submitted applications and decides how places are to be allocated. The final decision is based on the submitted documents and possibly also a selection interview (held in German and Spanish).
  3. You are informed of the decision by e-mail approximately four weeks after the deadline for applications.
  4. If you are selected by the committee for a place in the Latin American exchange programme, you must inform the Central Office for International Affairs whether you intend to accept the place. This decision is binding.
  5. You should then submit your application to the host university in Latin America. Please note that some partner universities require additional documents. The final decision on acceptance is made by the host university.
  6. As soon as you have received your letter of acceptance from the partner university in Latin America you can apply for your visa and start to organise your journey.
  7. Semesters at the partner universities in Latin America start between January and March (1st semester) or July/August (2nd semester).
  8. After completing your exchange abroad please submit your final documents to the Central Office for International Affairs: confirmation of exchange, experience report and a copy of your Transcript of Records.

The decision on how places are allocated is taken by a selection committee. The selection committee members are professors from different faculties of FAU.

The decision is based on the following criteria:

  • Course achievements and academic qualifications
  • Reasons motivating you to apply for the exchange
  • Language skills

Application and enrolment are via the online application form on Mobility Online. Please ensure you use your FAU IdM login to log onto the Mobility Online application portal.
