"Revolt at the Piano" Political Piano Music by Hartmann, Janáček, and Chopin A conversational concert with Christoph Orendi on the 80th anniversary of liberation

About the Program: The Erlangen pianist Christoph Orendi presents a special conversational concert as part of the Week of Freedom of Expression. In commemoration of the 80th anniversary of liberation, Orendi will perform and discuss politically motivated piano works by Hartmann, Janáček, and Chopin. The evening's centerpiece will be Karl Amadeus Hartmann's significant "Sonata 27. April 1945," which will be contrasted with Leoš Janáček's "Sonata 1.X. 1905" and Frédéric Chopin's Scherzo No. 1 in B minor. The concert will reflect on the end of the war in 1945, the death of a protester in Brno in 1905, and the November Uprising in Poland around 1830. Orendi will explore the musical connections and shed light on these dramatic historical events.

Admission is free, donations are welcome ("pay what you can").
