The Computer Technology Collection Erlangen (ISER) contains a wide range of objects that document the rapid development of computer technology, from the Zuse Z23 and the first electronic desktop calculator to parallel computers and modern microprocessors. Regional developments in computer technology are the main focus of the collection. It also contains historical original and reproduction calculators and mathematical instruments, such as a replica of a Roman abacus and an arithmometer from 1868.

The collection has been managed by Regional Computer Centre Erlangen and the Institute of Computer Science since 1997. It originates from the computer technology archive of Professor Wolfgang Händler, the father of computer technology in Erlangen who collected documents and components related to computer technology, and the computer technology museum established by Dr. Franz Wolf, former technical director of the computer centre, several years later.

The collection is currently being reviewed and inventoried according to museum standards. The aim is for it to be used in teaching in the future. Tours are available by arrangement and virtual visits are possible at www.iser.fau.de.
