Informationen finden Sie unter folgendem Link: https://sz.fau.de/abteilung-englisch-fuer-hoererinnen-aller-fakultaeten/enghaf_kurs_ueberblick/enghaf_kursangebot_detail/ Since women in the U.S. in principle obtained the right to vote in 1919 with the passage of the 19th Amendment, they have been a (slowly) growing force in American politics. On January 4, 2007, John Boehner handed over the Speaker of the House gavel to Nancy Pelosi, making her the first female Speaker of the House of Representatives and therefore 3rd in line to the presidency – the closest any woman had ever gotten. The 2020 election shattered another of the few remaining glass ceilings in American politics by making Kamala Harris the first female Vice President of the United States. This seminar explores the strategies women have employed to rise through the ranks of American politics, how they are perceived by both the American public and their male colleagues in the echelons of political power, and how female leadership might differ from male political leadership. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, when asked when there will be enough women on the Supreme Court, replied, “When there are nine.” In that vein, this seminar will also ask the question whether America might be ready to seriously consider a female president in 2024.
