As the University women’s representative, Prof. Keilhauer supports the University in promoting the implementation of equal opportunities and diversity with the aim of increasing the proportion of women on all levels of academic research. She advises the Executive Board on monitoring and implementing equal opportunities in the University’s bodies and committees.

Curriculum vitae

Prof. Dr. Annette Keilhauer was born in 1964 and read German studies and Romance studies at the universities of Bayreuth, Clermont-Ferrand, Konstanz and Pittsburgh. In 1991, she completed her studies in Konstanz with her first state examination and graduated with a Magister Artium. Between 1992 and 1998, she was a research associate at the University of Passau and the University of Saarland and completed her doctoral degree at the University of Saarland in 1997 on Romance philology in French chansons in the 18th century. From 1998 to 2004, she was a research associate at the Department of Romance Literatures and Linguistics at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, where she obtained her habilitation for Romance literature and cultural studies on the subject of women’s rights and literature in the 19th century from a transcultural perspective (France and Italy).

After a research stay at Blaise Pascal University in Clermont-Ferrand and after passing her second state examination for teaching secondary education (Gymnasium) in French and German, she worked in the Bavarian education system. In 2008, she was appointed Akademische Rätin and in 2015, she was appointed Akademische Oberrätin, before becoming an adjunct professor at the Institute of Romance Studies at FAU in the same year. There she is a lecturer and researcher in French and Italian literature and cultural studies with a focus on gender research. Since the beginning of 2015, she has been the founding speaker of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Gender Difference and Diversity and a liaison professor of the German National Academic Foundation since 2017.

She was a women’s representative for her department from 2009 to 2011 and deputy University women’s representative from 2011. She was elected as a University women’s representative in September 2017. Her current term of office ends in September 2021. She currently represents the concerns of gender equality in the University Council, the Senate, in the Centre for Teacher Education, in the Commission for Equal Opportunities and in the Commission for the Allocation of Tuition Fee Compensation.
