Experts from Universitätsklinikum Erlangen are involved in seven projects in the university medicine research network (Netzwerk der Universitätsmedizin, NUM), which is receiving a total of 150 million euros in funding from the BMBF.

A large part of the winter semester 2020/21 will be taught online. Although some face-to-face teaching will still take place, the upcoming semester will be a hybrid semester. A hybrid semester means that face-to-face teaching is offered to supplement online teaching. We will ensure that all degree programmes can still be studied.

The international project ‘Age(ing) as future’ at the Institute of Psychogerontology at FAU initiated a study within the context of the coronavirus pandemic in April. It investigates personal experiences, attitudes, worries and behaviour with respect to Covid-19 in Germany and Hong Kong.

Researchers from the German Centre for Immunotherapy (DZI) at Universitätsklinikum Erlangen have conducted tests to detect antibodies against the coronavirus, as diseases such as arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease or psoriasis are treated with medication that inhibits inflammation and modulates the immune response. A detailed corona antibody study has now been published in the scientific journal Nature Communications.

FAU without face-to-face teaching? This was the problem that teaching staff, the Executive Board, University Administration and FAU’s services were suddenly confronted with at the start of the coronavirus pandemic. In 2020 a lot of things are different than before – and that includes the Schlossgartenfest at FAU. Instead of celebrating together at the Schlossgartenfest, this year we will celebrate together online: at the #FAUSommernacht on Saturday 11 July from 7pm. An evening of music, interviews and memories of previous garden parties as a YouTube stream.

From Tuesday 16 June, students who are in acute need and require direct assistance will be able to apply online for assistance in the form of a non-repayable grant at www.ueberbrueckungshilfe-studierende.de.

To support the political discussion about further developing energy reform and sustainable economic development during the coronavirus pandemic, the Expert Commission for the Monitoring Process ‘Energy of the Future’ of the Federal Government has made a statement detailing central fields of action for the German energy reform in a European context. FAU is represented in the Expert Commission by Prof. Dr. Veronika Grimm, Chair of Economic Theory.
