He has been a co-ordinator of one of the Elite Network of Bavaria’s international doctorate programmes and the DFG Priority Programme SPP 1253 ‘Optimisation with PDE-constraints’. Professor Leugering has also worked on the Collaborative Research Centre SFB 603 ‘Model-based analysis and visualisation of complex scenes and sensor data’ and the Research Group FOR 894 ‘Fundamental flow analysis of the human voice’, and is now involved in SFB 814 ‘Additive manufacturing’. Professor Leugering is head of the department ‘Multiscale Modeling and Simulation’ at the Cluster of Excellence ‘Engineering of Advanced Materials’ (EAM) and is a member of the board at EAM. He is also a member of the board of the DFG Transregio 154 ‘Mathematical modelling, simulation and optimisation using the example of gas networks’. Since coming to FAU, he has participated in three BMBF projects as a sub-project leader and secured many projects carried out in collaboration with industry.

Professor Leugering has held positions as Dean of Studies at Technische Universität Darmstadt’s faculty of mathematics, as an FAU senator, and as speaker of FAU’s Department of Mathematics.
