Full Professor of Tax Law and Public Law (salary group W3)

Full Professor of Tax Law and Public Law
(salary group W3)
at the School of Law. This is a full-time and permanent position planned to be filled by April 1, 2025.
We seek to appoint a leading expert with an internationally visible profile in research and teaching. The professorship will contribute to the research excellence at the Faculty and FAU by conducting internationally competitive research in this field and publishing in outstanding national and international journals. The professor will be responsible for research and teaching in the field. Teaching will predominantly be in the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs offered at the School of Business, Economics and Society at FAU, and will cover both foundation and specialization modules in the area of Finance, Accounting, Controlling and Taxation (FACT). The professor is expected to take an active part in the State Examination degree program in Law and to become involved in interdisciplinary collaboration within the Faculty, FAU and with extramural institutions.
The professorship will be based in Nuremberg.
Successful candidates should demonstrate an excellent academic track record in research and teaching at the highest international standards. They should have substantial research experience abroad and/or international cooperations as well as experience in managing research projects and in raising third-party funding. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree as well as a passion for education and relevant teaching experience are prerequisites. Candidates who are able and willing to teach in both English and German are preferred. The position also requires additional postdoctoral qualifications. These should be in the form of a habilitation (postdoctoral thesis) or equivalent academic qualifications. These qualifications may also have been achieved in a non-university context or through a junior faculty position (for example as Assistant Professor).

Tenure-track position as Associate Professor of Mechanobiology in Medicine
(salary group W2)
at the Institute of Medical Physics. The position is to be filled by the earliest possible starting date for an initial period of six years. FAU offers the long-term perspective of a permanent appointment to an associate professorship if the requirements of the tenure evaluation are met. The appointment involves secondary membership of the Faculty of Sciences and the Department of Physics. The professorship is affiliated with the Institute of Medical Physics (Director: Prof. Kristian Franze) located in the new Max-Planck-Zentrum für Physik und Medizin.
We seek to appoint a leading expert in the field of mechanobiology with an internationally visible profile documented by excellent publications and success in securing third-party funding. Candidates should use state-of-the-art methods in optics, molecular biology and/or cell biology to measure and manipulate cellular forces and/or mechanical tissue properties (e.g. optogenetics, FRET-based force sensors) to illustrate the role of tissue mechanics and cellular mechanotransduction cascades in biologically and medically relevant processes.
Close collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine is expected as well as with the institutions of other faculties and involvement in collaborative research projects, DFG collaborative research centers and interdisciplinary centers. The professorship is involved in teaching in Medicine and Biophysics. The Faculty of Medicine offers the degree program Molecular Medicine and is involved in the degree programs Integrated Life Sciences (BSc and MSc) and Integrated Immunology (MSc) offered by the Faculty of Sciences.

at the Department of Medicine 4 – Nephrology and Hypertension at Uniklinikum Erlangen. The position is to be filled by the earliest possible starting date for an initial period of six years. FAU offers the long-term perspective of a permanent appointment to an associate professorship if the requirements of the tenure evaluation are met.
We seek to appoint a leading expert with an internationally visible profile in research and teaching. The professor will be responsible for conducting teaching and research in immunology with a particular focus on the kidney. The professorship focuses on research into immunological processes that contribute to the onset, prevention and treatment of (auto) immune diseases of the kidney and on the regulation of the rejection or acceptance of kidney transplants. The ideal candidate will be highly skilled at researching the immune system and will have proven expertise in translating these findings into clinical practice. The professor will also be expected to become involved in teaching immunity and nephrology.
The professorship will be expected to collaborate in research networks at the Faculty of Medicine (Collaborative Research Centers, Research Training Groups, Interdisciplinary Center for Clinical Research), in particular in TRR374, and be involved in teaching students. The degree programs taught at the Faculty of Medicine include Medicine, Dentistry, Molecular Medicine. (BSc, MSc), Medical Process Management, Midwifery Sciences and Logopedics. The programs Medical Engineering and Integrated Immunology are taught in collaboration with other faculties.

The Department of Data Science (DDS) is currently undergoing a period of expansion. The department’s vision is to conduct fundamental research into data science in a dynamic, collaborative environment. Agile teams will work together to explore pioneering interdisciplinary research topics.
We seek to appoint leading experts with an internationally visible profile in research and teaching, who have outstanding expertise in the mathematical aspects of data science. We are open to applications from candidates from both early and advanced stages in their careers.
The professorships are expected to cover essential research topics in the field of data science. Successful candidates are expected to have an outstanding profile in a current area of research, such as statistical learning theory, mathematical foundations of machine learning, probabilistic machine learning, modern algorithms for data analysis, mathematical analysis of large volumes of data, high-dimensional statistics, reinforcement learning, deep learning, optimization and machine learning, or the basics of foundation models. Their research activities should complement existing working groups at FAU, in particular those in the context of data science, and we would welcome collaboration in interdisciplinary topics or applications. The professor(s) will also be expected to contribute to the expansion of the Department of Data Science at FAU.
The professor(s) will be responsible for teaching introductory and advanced courses in the degree programs in Data Science (B.Sc. and M.Sc.). They will also be expected to take an active part in other degree programs involving mathematics and data science, as well as lectures aimed at students from other subjects.
