The Faculty of Medicine at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) invites applications for a

tenure-track position as Associate/Full Professor of

Interdisciplinary Oral Surgery and Oral Medicine

(salary group W2/W3)

at the Department of Oral and Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgery. The position is to be filled by the earliest possible starting date for an initial period of six years. FAU offers the long-term perspective of a permanent appointment to either an associate or a full professorship if the requirements of the tenure evaluation are met.

We seek to appoint an internationally recognized leader in interdisciplinary oral surgery and oral medicine. The Department of Oral and Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgery focuses on head and neck reconstructive surgery, cleft lip and palate and craniofacial malformations. Special outpatient clinics are also available to treat patients presenting with systemic diseases affecting the oral cavity (for instance following organ transplants).

Candidates are required to have comprehensive knowledge of and expertise in medical care, surgery and implant-based rehabilitation of the patient groups mentioned above.  Relevant publications and success in acquiring third-party funding will serve as evidence of scientific achievements in the stated fields. We would welcome close clinical and scientific collaboration with relevant hospital institutions (including the following Centers:  Head and Neck Tumors, Cleft Lip and Palate, Organ Transplantation). Leadership experience, management skills, and the organizational capability to further develop the university outpatient clinic for oral and maxillofacial surgery are required. The integration and expansion of innovative imaging procedures, for instance dental MRI, in cranio-maxillofacial diagnostic procedures and integration into an outpatients’ surgical center is expected.

Finally, active participation and advancement of teaching dental students in oral surgery and oral medicine are required. The Faculty of Medicine offers degree programs in Medicine, Dentistry, Molecular Medicine (BSc and MSc), Medical Process Management, Midwifery Sciences and Logopedics as well as the interdisciplinary degree programs Medical Engineering and Integrated Immunology.

These qualifications may also have been achieved in a non-university context or through a junior faculty position (for example as Assistant Professor). Candidates must provide evidence of a license to practice medicine as a dentist in the field of oral surgery or as a doctor with a double qualification in the field of oral and cranio-maxillofacial surgery.

In addition to the above, candidates applying for a full professorship must have a wide research spectrum and high international visibility in the area of oral medicine, experience in leading clinical studies, and management experience.
