Research projects and partnerships

Putting more knowledge in motion together

FAU has a strong network that reaches beyond institutional and geographical borders. This benefits students and researchers in equal measure. Research projects involve collaborating with renowned international companies in the region such as Siemens, Schaeffler and adidas. Projects with other universities, federal authorities and museums. Close partnerships with external research institutions such as the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light, Helmholtz Institute for Renewable Energies Erlangen-Nürnberg, Fraunhofer IIS and IISB. These partnerships generate innovative processes, technologies and services that are quickly transferred from theory into practice.

This emphasis on transdisciplinary work creates completely new ways of collaborating. For example, the globally successful medical engineering cluster Medical Valley EMN combines knowledge and skills from research, healthcare, business and politics. New technologies for the entire energy system are developed at Energie Campus Nürnberg in conjunction with various research institutions and business partnerships. FAU is home to particularly creative concepts for collaboration such as the open innovation lab JOSEPHS, which involves its guests as testers and researchers, or the Campus of the Senses that aims to digitalise human sensory perception.
