3 questions for Nadine Hamilton

Nadine Hamilton won the Bavarian Prize for Excellence in Teaching in 2023. The theologian is particularly keen to support students in all their diversity and encourage them to find their own position.

What are you currently researching?

I am researching a Christian understanding of the world that extends to all living beings and appreciates their unique characteristics. I make a point of considering the modern approach to human infirmity and vulnerability from an altered but still Christian perspective

Why are you interested in this topic?

I am interested in the question of whether and how dogmatic considerations of God and the world can offer a new perspective on society and its structures. Based on the example of marginalization and exploitation, I try not only to question and challenge systematic societal problems but also to explore specific new ways of overcoming these cultural obstacles from a Christian perspective.

What characterizes good teaching and why are you so committed to this cause?

Students start studying theology with many questions, interests and goals. It is important for me that they find, articulate and question their own positions. For me, good teaching is if I succeed in supporting students in all their diversity and make a contribution to enabling them to work effectively in their future professional contexts.

A university thrives because of the people who research, study, teach and work there. A university is supported by people who are connected to it as alumni, friends and sponsors and who are committed to promoting its interests all over the world.

They all contribute their unique talents, skills and perspectives. It is this diversity that makes our FAU a place of innovation, a place where many talented individuals tackle the major challenges of our times together, and a place where they keep finding answers.
