Third Weltmarktführer Innovation Day again very successful

Representatives of research, politics and economy meet in Erlangen for third Weltmarktführer Innovation Day

Prestigious guests including the member of the German Council of Economic Experts and FAU professor Dr. Veronika Grimm, the CEO of the BMW Group Oliver Zipse or Sabina Jeschke, the former member of the board of Deutsche Bahn and CEO of KI Park e.v., met on September 13 in the Heinrich Lades Halle in Erlangen to discuss sustainable mobility.

It is the third time that representatives from academia, politics and industry have met in Erlangen for Innovation Day, which is well on the way to becoming an established tradition, as the editor in chief of WirtschaftsWoche Beat Balzi commented in his welcoming speech. FAU President Prof. Dr. Joachim Hornegger stressed the importance of platforms such as this for exchanging ideas. “Innovation is crucial for us to secure our prosperity. FAU is one of the most innovative universities in the world, nowhere has more patents than the Nuremberg Metropolitan Region. This success is born from close partnerships between FAU and industry.”

As the initiator of the Global Market Leaders Innovation Day, FAU is itself contributing to research into and advances in sustainable mobility. As Joachim Hornegger said, “with our new degree program in electromobility, we are laying the foundation for developing innovative ideas for mobility.” Together with the Helmholtz Institute Erlangen-Nürnberg for Renewable Energy, the University is developing hydrogen technologies for sustainable mobility ranging from basic research to practical applications.

What is the future of mobility?

One of the highlights was the round table discussion on the strength of innovation for sustainable technology with a panel consisting of the member of the German Council of Economic Experts and Chair of Economic Theory Dr. Veronika Grimm, FAU alumnus Eric Bach, Senior Vice President Product and Chief Engineer Lucid Motors, and Uwe Wagner, Chief Technology Manager at Schaeffler AG. Other panels discussed the competitive factors for SMEs, partnerships between start-ups and SMEs and digital mobility.

Bavarian Minister President Markus Söder was patron of the event.
