FAU is extremely well connected to the public transport network in Erlangen, Nuremberg and Fürth. Students benefit from the numerous bus, tram and commuter train lines that provide smooth connections between the cities and the University’s locations. The high frequency of the services enables flexible and short commuting times.
Information about departure times, tickets and route maps is available here: Verkehrsverbund Großraum Nürnberg (VGN).
Instead of the semester ticket: Discounted ticket for students in Bavaria.
A semester ticket is currently not being offered. Instead, students can buy a discounted “Deutschlandticket” for 38 euros a month from the regional public transport provider Verkehrsverbund Großraum Nürnberg (VGN). Like the “Deutschlandticket”, this ticket is valid for all of Germany.
Bike-friendly University locations
Erlangen, known as one of the most bike-friendly cities in Germany, has a well developed network of cycle paths. Many students use their bikes to travel quickly from one University building to the next. There are even bike repair stations at FAU locations.
Nuremberg and Fürth also have many cycle paths that make it easier to reach the University’s locations there.
