Exchanges are offered at FAU’s partner universities as part of the regular call for applications in the winter semester of the relevant academic year with an application deadline in fall. FAU students can spend one to two semesters abroad at the partner universities listed below as part of the direct exchange program FAUexchange. In most cases, exchange students are exempt from tuition fees at the partner university abroad. Further information can be found on our page on application procedures.

- Content of the exchange program: Studying: Involves participating in lectures and seminars at QUT.

- Unfortunately, Australian citizens cannot apply for an exchange at QUT.
- Minimum grade required for application: An average grade of at least 2.3 at the time when filing the application at FAU.
- Funding available: There are a few spaces that are exempt from tuition fees and the remainder are not exempt.
In the 2026/27 academic year, only places that are not exempt from paying tuition fees are available. This means you must pay tuition fees in full if you want to study at QUT.
Semester dates in Brazil: January/February to July (1st semester) and end of July/beginning of August to December (2nd semester).
Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC)

Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras)
- Special feature: Students from the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Theology, and the Faculty of Sciences will receive preferential treatment when spaces are allocated.
- Study options: Selected courses in the humanities, engineering, sciences and business studies.

Semester dates in Japan: End of September to February (fall and winter semester) and April to July (summer semester).
- Study options:
- iExPo: Attending regular teaching units in Japanese, additional courses may be available in English (admission requirements: a high level of proficiency in Japanese at JLPT level N2 or N1).
- OUSSEP: A very restricted range of courses is available in English, usually in combination with a Japanese language course (admission requirements: proficiency in English; knowledge of Japanese not required), predominantly for Bachelor’s students who have already studied four semesters at FAU before starting to study in Japan.
- FrontierLab@Osaka: A laboratory course (only for certain areas of research in engineering and sciences) with the option to attend teaching units taught in Japanese or English (admission requirements: proficiency in English or Japanese at JLPT level N2).
- Maple: Intensive one-year course in Japanese language and culture (admission requirements: proficiency in Japanese, JLPT level N3).

The partner universities in South Korea offer courses in English. Not all universities expect students to have a knowledge of Korean.

- Study options: Mostly only Bachelor’s degrees: All degree programs offered in the area of business and economics, sciences and engineering. On a Master’s degree level, Global MBA and Graduate School of International Studies only.

- Special feature: Only open to students from the Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Theology and the School of Business, Economics and Society.
- Level of study: Bachelor’s. Master’s degree programs only open to students with a sound knowledge of Korean.
- Teaching language: Korean. In some Bachelor’s degree programs teaching units are offered in English. Bachelor’s applicants should have a sound knowledge of both Korean and English (if sufficient courses are offered in English). Master’s applicants are expected to have a sound knowledge of Korean.

National Chung Cheng University (CCU)
- Special feature: Only open to students from the Faculty of Engineering and the School of Business, Economics and Society.
- Study options at the department of Mechanical Engineering at CCU: A wide range of courses in English, students at Bachelor’s and Master’s levels are accepted for exchanges.
- Study options at the department of Computer Science at CCU: A wide range of courses in English, students at Bachelor’s and Master’s levels are accepted for exchanges.
- Study options at the Department of Electrical Engineering: Only students at Master’s level are accepted. Bachelor’s degree students cannot apply for this department.
- Study options at the Department of Communications Engineering: Only students at Master’s level are accepted. Bachelor’s degree students cannot apply for this department.
- Study options at the College of Management: A considerable number of courses taught in English. Most of these courses are intended for Master’s students. Bachelor’s students can enroll on these courses with the agreement of the course manager. Most departments at the College of Management accept exchange students.
- Study options at the Department of Economics: Exchange students are currently not accepted.
- However, even though the list of study options is extensive, there may still be restrictions on admission to certain study programs.
- Level of study: Bachelor’s and Master’s, depending on the study program or college at CCU.

Minnesota State University (Mankato, Minnesota)
- Study options: All degree programs except for law, medicine and dentistry
- Level of study: Only Bachelor’s degree programs; students studying Master’s degree programs at FAU can be admitted to undergraduate degree programs at the MNSU
- Teaching language: English
- Funding available: waiver of tuition fees or reduction of tuition fees to 5,380 USD per semester (in 2024/25).
- Minimum grade required for application: An average grade of at least 2.3 at the time when filing the application at FAU.
Troy University (Troy, Alabama)
- Special feature: Only open to students from the Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Theology, the School of Business, Economics and Society and the Faculty of Engineering.
- Study options: The most suitable options for exchange students are humanities and business. It is not possible to study medicine, dentistry, law or engineering.
- Level of study: Bachelor’s and Master’s
- Credits at the host university: A certain number of courses must be taken each semester (24-46 ac. credits per semester, 12 are obligatory, the rest is recommended).
