Funding associations

As a university, we rely on people who support us and the work of our students and researchers. This is the only way that teaching and research can be supported effectively and innovative ideas can come to life. The funding associations at FAU are committed to the work of the University and help to foster the relationships between business, the University and the population of the Nuremberg Metropolitan Region.

Would you like to get involved or do you have a query about the work of the funding associations? Just get in touch with the relevant contacts:

The University Association, Universitätsbund Erlangen-Nürnberg e. V., is an association bringing together the friends and supporters of FAU. For over 100 years, it has functioned as an intermediary between the interests of the University and the many interests of the people and the economy of the region in Northern Bavaria. In addition to funding opportunities for research and teaching, it holds events and provides platforms for exchanging knowledge and transferring technology.
It currently has around 2,200 members in six regional groups comprising students, graduates, teaching staff, local councils, companies and individuals from all areas of society.

The special fund finances academic work and research projects at the University that are ineligible for state funding.

An application can be made once a year. All professors at FAU are sent an email with information about the current application requirements in March or April each year.

Since the funding awarded is generated from interest on a relatively small capital base, approved applications will generally receive a maximum amount in the mid four-digit range. The decision regarding funding and announcements are not made by committees or departments at the University, but by the advisory board of the special fund in Nuremberg.
