Changing degree program at FAU

Degree programs with or without admission restrictions

Application for changing subject

Students who are already enrolled at FAU and who would like to change to a degree program without admission restrictions must complete and sign an application for changing subject and submit it to the Student Records Office (also possible via email without a signature). Students can generally change their degree program to a subject that does not have admission restrictions or requires advance registration in the period between re-registration and the start of the lecture period.

To change to a degree program with admission restrictions, you must first apply for a place and be accepted.

Notes

Please note:

  • Any formalities for enrollment (admission restrictions, etc.) that apply to the new subject,
  • That you can usually only change to the first subject semester in the winter semester (except for degree programs that can normally be started in the summer semester),
  • That you need formal accreditation (see below) to enable any achievements to date to be accredited,
  • That in the case of subjects where the first subject semester starts during the winter semester only, you can only change to a higher subject semester if you have sufficient credits eligible for accreditation.

Accreditation of previous achievements

For degree programs without admission restrictions, you can have your previous course achievements accredited by submitting an application to the examination officer or accreditation officer responsible for the subject. To do so, you require a certified transcript of records as well as proof of the content and scope of the achievements you have obtained to date (e.g. module descriptions). The Examinations Office then enrolls you in the relevant subject semester based on the scope of the achievements you have completed to date. Please contact the relevant subject advisor or the Student Advice Center (ZSB) for further information.
