CIO Committees

The CIO Committee of FAU, together with the Chief Information Officer (CIO), coordinates the strategic advancement of information and communication technology (ICT) at the University. Together with the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), it shapes the digital future of FAU with the goal of optimally supporting research, teaching, and administration through modern, secure, and high-performance IT structures. The focus is particularly on the quality of university services, the networking of existing systems, and ensuring information security and data protection.

CIO Committee

To achieve these goals, the CIO Committee, on behalf of the Executive Board and based on FAU’s higher education policy objectives, develops FAU’s ICT strategy. The CIO Committee supports the Executive Board in all strategic decisions related to ICT matters.

CIO/IO Committee

Coordination with faculties, students, and other stakeholder groups of the University takes place in the CIO/IO Committee.

The conditions, working methods, and requirements regarding ICT matters are highly heterogeneous across the various disciplines of a large university and must be adequately incorporated into the ICT strategy as well as central guidelines and decisions on ICT matters. To this end, the CIO Committee is supplemented by a CIO/IO Committee, in which two Information Officers (IOs) per faculty and IOs from other stakeholder groups (Library, students) participate and ensure efficient exchange with the individual academic disciplines.

The group advises on the development of the ICT strategy and incorporates the knowledge and interests of the faculties and students into the planning. It develops concepts for optimizing FAU’s ICT structure and implementing FAU’s ICT strategy and optimization strategies.

The structure and tasks of the committees are defined in detail in the CIO Regulations.
