Short-term mobility (BIP)

As part of a blended intensive program (BIP), students can take part in a short, in-person group mobility for between 5 and 30 days at an Erasmus+ partner university with which a cooperation agreement has been made.

An important component of a BIP is the obligatory virtual phase that allows students to prepare for, make the most of, and follow up on the mobility phase. The scope and design of the virtual phase is based on the learning objectives of the program and is defined by the university offering the program.

In particular, a BIP offers students who may not be able to complete a longer stay abroad a flexible means of gaining some international experience.

Students who complete a BIP should gain at least 3 ECTS credits that can be accredited to their degree program.

A BIP is held in partnership with Erasmus+ partner universities, i.e. students can only participate in BIPs if FAU has signed a contract allowing participation.

FAU currently takes part in the following BIPs, has successfully applied for EU funding for them and has concluded the relevant Erasmus contracts with the universities.

Students who are participating in a BIP abroad and would like to receive funding have to observe the same Erasmus+ procedures before, during and after the stay abroad as they would if they were spending a whole semester abroad. This includes submitting an application to the department as well as a nomination and submitting the relevant documents to International Affairs. The exact amount available for the scholarship is listed on our website on Erasmus+ funding rates.

The total amount is paid before the stay abroad, once all relevant documents have been submitted.

Nomination

First of all, you should apply at your department, institute or school. After your nomination is sent to International Affairs, you will receive further information on the application process by email as well as the request to register and apply via the “Mobility Online” portal where student exchanges at FAU are processed. Further steps may then include registering in the partner institution’s application portal (after you are asked to do so).

Information about travel, accommodation, insurance

  • Unless instructed otherwise, you are responsible for making your own travel arrangements. The host institution may make accommodation arrangements for you, but this is not automatically the case.
  • When taking part in the Erasmus+ program, you are obliged to ensure that you have adequate insurance cover during your in-person stay at the partner university. As a minimum, this includes adequate health insurance, liability insurance and possibly also accident insurance. International Affairs does not provide individual advice. Please find out about the various options on offer in good time.

Before mobility begins:

  • Grant Agreement: The Grant Agreement forms the contractual and financial basis of the stay abroad and the signed original must therefore be submitted. The Grant Agreement includes the duration of the funding, the obligation of the funding recipient to submit a report and details of the planned Erasmus+ funding and how it will be paid. The document will be made available to you during the application process via the Mobility Online portal.
  • (Digital) Learning Agreement: The (Digital) Learning Agreement is approved and concluded by three parties before mobility begins. It sets down the student’s intention to study at the host institution and is therefore an agreement between students, their own university and the host institution. Unless stipulated otherwise, students are requested to submit the learning agreement online via the Mobility Online portal. The workload for students corresponds to at least 3 ECTS credits, as stipulated in the Learning Agreement for students taking part in the mobility. The following parties sign the Learning Agreement:
    • The student taking part
    • The accreditation officer at the student’s home institution
    • The person responsible at the host institution

After completion of mobility:

We will keep you informed about all the documents that need to be submitted during the application and mobility process via Mobility Online.

There are also BIPS hosted at FAU that FAU students can participate in but students are not eligible to receive funding.

FAU is responsible for the following BIPs and has concluded Erasmus agreements with the participating universities:
