Deutschlandstipendium

FAU supports particularly talented and dedicated students with the Deutschlandstipendium scholarship.

The special feature of the Deutschlandstipendium is that half the funding is provided by the Federal Government and the other half is provided by private supporters such as companies, foundations, alumni and friends of FAU.

Students at FAU can apply once per year. The scholarship amounts to 300 euros per month and is initially granted for up to two semesters (winter semester and the following summer semester). Extensions until the end of the standard duration of study are possible, but a new application must be submitted.

How to apply

The application period for winter semester 2026/2027 begins at 12 noon on June 15, 2026, and ends at 11.59 pm on July 15, 2026 (final deadline).

Applications for a Deutschlandstipendium at FAU are organized via campo.

The Deutschlandstipendium: Requirements and funding opportunities

Click on the tabs to receive further information.

If you are enrolled on a degree program at FAU and are studying for a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or the State Examination and have an IdM username, you can apply for the Deutschlandstipendium scholarship.

Anyone who is already receiving any other performance-based funding for gifted and talented students of more than 30 euros per month is excluded from applying for a Deutschlandstipendium. Further information is available on the website for the Deutschlandstipendium, under the heading “parallel funding”.

Doctoral candidates and exchange students are not eligible to apply either.

The most important requirements for receiving a Deutschlandstipendium at FAU are a students’ achievements.

Specifically, this means that applicants on an undergraduate degree program who are applying for a Deutschlandstipendium for the first time must have achieved very good grades in their university entrance qualification (average grade of 1.5 or better).

  • If you are applying for a scholarship in the first semester of a postgraduate degree, it is the grade for the previous degree or the grade you used to apply for the postgraduate degree that is decisive (2.0 or better).
  • If you are in a higher semester of an undergraduate or postgraduate degree when applying for a Deutschlandstipendium for the first time at FAU, you must prove that you have completed the achievements required for your degree program on the basis of the degree program and examination regulations up until the previous semester, obtaining an average grade of 2.0 or better (selection criteria quantity and quality of achievements).

In cases in which your duration of study is extended for serious reasons, such as a disability, pregnancy, acting as a caregiver or caring for a child, or for spending time abroad as part of your studies, the maximum duration of funding can be extended upon request.

The Deutschlandstipendium is usually awarded for two semesters (one funding year). Deutschlandstipendium scholarships are awarded during the standard duration of study only.

The funding period can also be shorter, for example if you receive funding from residual funds during the clearing procedure, terminate your degree program, no longer fulfill the requirements for awarding the funding or if there are no more funds available.

If you would like to continue to receive a Deutschlandstipendium scholarship from FAU after one year, you have to prove that you have completed the achievements pursuant to the degree program and examination regulations up until the most recently completed semester, with an average grade of 2.5 or better (selection criteria quantity and quality of achievements).

In cases of hardship, you may submit a certificate from a university lecturer confirming that you are either one of their most talented students or failed to demonstrate your true potential thanks to special personal circumstances.

As well as achievements while studying, personal circumstances may also be taken into account. These include caring for a child, supporting international students, caring for relatives, completed voluntary service, time spent abroad relating to your degree, voluntary work, and at least one year of professional experience or work in the family business.

For some scholarships, whether a student is receiving BAFöG or not can be taken into consideration during the selection process.

Some scholarship providers award their funding specifically to students of certain subjects or specializations. Please therefore indicate on your application if one of the following applies to your degree program:
