FAU in the top ten
New Nature Index published
FAU is ranked 8th in Germany in the Nature Index 2021, making it one of the top ten institutes of higher education in Germany. On an international level, FAU has moved up 15 places, reaching place 127 in the global 500. The ranking also acknowledges publications in individual subjects. In Germany, FAU reached 8th place in chemistry (place 96 internationally).
In the Nature Index, Nature Research evaluates research in the natural sciences over the previous year. An analysis is conducted of the number and features of scientific publications in 82 selected, renowned journals, including Nature and Science. In 2020, FAU contributed 371 publications, 1729 citations and six ‘highly cited’ papers. The top fields of research were multidisciplinary chemistry, multidisciplinary science, astronomy, astrophysics, multidisciplinary materials science and applied physics
