Taking a stand on preventing violence against women and girls on orange day on 25 November

It might be a disparaging remark at work, inappropriate touching, or violence at home. Violence and discrimination against women and girls can take many different forms. The international ‘Orange your city’ campaign takes place every year on 25 November to raise awareness of the issue, with buildings across the world lit up in orange as a sign of support. This year, FAU and the City of Erlangen are to become involved for the first time, lighting up the Schloss, the City Hall and the City Museum. The city management team in Erlangen has extended the ‘Erlangen leuchtet’ event especially until 25 November.

At FAU we stand up for respect and against all forms of discrimination and violence

At FAU we stand up for respect and against all forms of discrimination and violence. This is one of the reasons why we have chosen diversity as one of our three core values. Unfortunately, violence against women and girls is still common, across the globe and in all social groups,’ explains Prof. Dr. Joachim Hornegger, FAU President.

As a visible beacon of FAU’s stance against violence, the Schloss will be lit in orange from 5pm until 9pm on Orange Day. The city hall and City Museum will also be lit up in orange at the same time.

Each and every one of us has a duty to take a clear stance against this and all other forms of violence

‘Violence, especially against women and girls, has no place in our society. Each and every one of us has a duty to take a clear stance against this and all other forms of violence. We are demonstrating our solidarity by lighting up three public buildings in orange, showing violence the red card,’ stresses Christian Frank, head of the city management team in Erlangen.
