Global Market Leaders Innovation Day held in Erlangen for the fourth time

On September 14, prestigious guests from industry, politics and academia met in the Heinrich Lades Halle in Erlangen to exchange ideas and take part in discussions during the Global Market Leader Innovation Day, held for the fourth time in Erlangen and focusing this year on the topic of energy and sustainability.

The guests included DATEV CEO Prof. Dr. Robert Mayr, Dr. Franziska Brantner, parliamentary state secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, and FAU professor Dr. Christoph Brabec, an internationally renowned expert in the field of photovoltaics. Minister President Dr. Markus Söder participated via a livestream.

As an innovative leader, the University was well represented at the event: the newly appointed Bavarian distinguished professor for Power-to-X technologies, Prof. Dr. Bastian Etzold, joined in discussions with other participants such as Dr. Daniel Teichmann, FAU alumnus and CEO of Hydrogenious LOHC Technologies, on the role of hydrogen as a future energy carrier. Prof. Dr. Katharina Herkendell from the Chair of Energy Process Engineering contributed her expertise to the panel for system integration and network stability. And Prof. Dr. Christoph Brabec, Chair of Materials Science (Materials in Electronics and Energy Technology) and director of the Helmholtz Institute Erlangen-Nürnberg for Renewable Energy (HI ERN) launched the Speakers’ Corner Special: Research meets Industry. This new format is designed to bridge the gap between research and industry, encouraging knowledge transfer from scientific findings to industrial companies, facilitating access to research institutions and communicating requirements from industry to research. Participants were able to find out all about “multi-benefit PV”, i.e. new photovoltaic technologies, and discover their potential for new applications and what this means for SMEs in future.

The evening before the event showed that the Innovation Day has become established as a regular event inspiring innovation: the Bavarian state government invited guests to a state reception at d.hip Erlangen on the occasion of the Innovation Day.  Roughly 300 guests from industry, academia and politics gathered to network at the event.
