Are you unsure about what you can and must do before lectures start?
We have compiled the most important steps, listed according to priority, in the list below:
What you must do
Identity Management (IdM) and FAUMail
- Once you have completed enrollment Have you received your user information letter (= IdM activation letter) by post and in campo?
- Have you activated your account in the IdM portal?
- Have you set up your FAUMail address (via the IdM portal)? Have you checked your FAUMail inbox?
- Have you read the information about IdM, email, WiFi etc. on the tips for getting started at FAU website?
FAUcard (student ID card)
- Have you uploaded a passport photo in the IdM portal?
- Have your checked your postal address in the IdM portal and amended it if necessary? (The FAUcard is only sent to addresses within Germany.)
- Have you read the information on the FAUcard?
If you move house
- Have you put your name on the letterbox at your new address?
- Have you entered your new address in the IdM portal (> Profile > Address for postal delivery)?
- Have you registered your main address at the residents’ registration office (Einwohnermeldeamt)?
Information on your degree program
- Have you carefully read all the information on the website of your degree program/institute?
- Read the degree program and examination regulations?
- Looked at the course catalog on campo? Created a first draft for your schedule?
- Checked dates for introductory and welcome events (and registered via StudOn if necessary)?
What you should do
University Library
- Have you activated the library function of your FAUcard? (Via the IdM portal)
- Familiarized yourself with library services?
- Have you reserved a space on the library training course?
Semester dates
- Have you made a note of lecture periods and semester deadlines?
- Made a note of the deadline for re-registration for the next semester?
Information on your degree program
- Have you taken part in online presentations on starting out at university?
- Have you familiarized yourself with the website for your degree program/your institute and with the FAU website?
Information and networking
- Have you started following FAU, your faculty, your degree program and the relevant student association (FSI) on social media?
- Have you taken a note of new students’ rallies, pub nights and other events organized by student associations and subjects?
- Have you gained an overview of possible hobbies or ways of becoming involved and making a difference at FAU?
You must read your emails from the University regularly. Dates for examinations, re-registration dates and other important information from the Executive Board are only sent to your FAU email address.
