Curriculum Vitae (English)

When you apply for an internship or job in the United Kingdom or North America, the two most important documents are the cover letter and the CV, or résumé. Formally, there are significant differences between these and German applications.

A simple translation of your German resume is not sufficient for a convincing application in English. An English CV, also known as a resume or résumé in the US, has its own format: Photos are taboo, and it’s less about you personally and more about your job-related experience.

The FAU Career Service offers an online check for applications in English, available to students, doctoral candidates, and graduates. If you would like us to check your application, please send your resume and cover letter as a Word document by email to career-service@fau.de. It may also make sense to include a specific job advertisement to allow us to tailor your application accordingly. We can only check applications via email.

It is important to note that we do not offer to prepare your application for you, we can only provide advice on improving it. During the review, we check your documents to ensure that the language and format are correct and in line with Anglo-American conventions. We will give you feedback and, if required, point out what still needs improving. You can then give us your new version for another review.
