FAU offers researchers comprehensive advice to allow them to plan and implement third-party funded projects successfully. At FAU there are also various internal funding options that are specially tailored to meet researchers’ needs, and we offer advice for anyone interested in exploring these options.
Advice on funding and legal support
Advice for third-party funded projects
As a leading research university, FAU is keen to provide its scientists and scholars with the best possible support in initiating and carrying out research projects funded by third parties. Support is provided both by the University as a whole and by the faculties, covering all steps in the application process from giving advice on funding, to providing support and start-up funding during the application process and all the way to the initial project phase. Events are held regularly giving information on the individual funding providers and programs.
Programs and support services
FAU’s own programs and funding
FAU is committed to supporting our researchers in all aspects of their academic career. Particular emphasis is laid on creating a nurturing environment in which talents can reach their full potential. In order to live up to this objective, FAU offers a number of internal funding and support measures and programs that are tailored individually to the needs of academics at the various stages in their career.
Whether you require support for your research projects, networking opportunities or support geared specifically towards future academic challenges, FAU strives to provide you with tailored solutions at all time.
The most innovative ideas for research often come when disciplines intersect. As a university which offers the entire spectrum of academic disciplines, and true to its motto “Moving knowledge”, FAU offers an outstanding environment for strong interdisciplinary networking. With the FAUconnect dialog platform, researchers have a tool specifically for initiating and developing their interdisciplinary research projects.
The aim of FAUconnect is to drive forward FAU’s strategic research fields that are geared to the future. The platform creates impetus for new and innovative research consortia and identifies and supports promising initiatives early on. In the long term, the aim of FAUconnect is to increase the amount of third-party funding from renowned external funding partners, strengthening FAU’s competitiveness on an international level.
FAU is particularly keen to recognize and encourage outstanding talents from the outset. The “Emerging Talents Initiative” (FAUeti) is aimed at helping excellent early career researchers apply for external funding. This should give early career researchers the possibility to promote an innovative project independently and extend their academic independence.
ETI funding supports outstanding young researchers by enabling them to submit an application to an external funding provider within the funding period (12 months).
The maximum funding available is 15,000 euros. Within this budget, postdoctoral researchers may apply for any measures required to prepare their application for external third-party funding.
The “research consortia for promoting equality at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg” (F³G) are an alliance of various collaborative research projects at FAU and Uniklinikum Erlangen. As well as encouraging collaboration between the groups, the objective of the alliance is to ensure that funds for promoting equality are used correctly and for the purpose set out in the guidelines.
Funding is provided for a wide range of measures aimed at improving equal opportunities, balancing research and family, encouraging female students to study STEM subjects, increasing the proportion of women in collaborative research projects, and supporting the careers of female researchers who are at an early stage in their career to encourage diversity and equal opportunities.
