Spotlight on the Student Advice Center
Our advice is available to both prospective and current students. We provide confidential, neutral and unbiased advice in a safe atmosphere. We consider your current situation, your goals and resources for the decision-making processes and work together with you to explore various options and possible solutions. You can call in to one of our drop-in consultation sessions without making an appointment. If you would prefer, you can also make an appointment for a personal consultation. We can talk neutrally about all your concerns relating to studying. The meetings are held in a confidential setting.
In our work, it is also important that we bolster your own personal skills. We naturally all have a good knowledge of examination and admission regulations and the relevant administrative processes at FAU.
What do we stand for?
- Our advice sessions center around you, focusing on your concerns, your personal strengths, skills and interests. We do not judge your individual situation.
- We take an unbiased and solution-oriented approach. We give you information aimed at helping you find possible solutions and options that are most suitable for you and that you can put into practice.
We accompany you during the orientation or decision-making phase.
The Student Advice Center is located
- in Erlangen in Halbmondstraße 6-8 (Mondays to Thursdays from 9 am to 4 pm and Fridays from 9 am to 2 pm)
- in Nuremberg in Lange Gasse 20 (by appointment only)
Since 1974, advisors from the Student Advice Service (IBZ) have been supporting prospective students and students in choosing their degree program and during their studies. In 1999, the Career Service was integrated into the Student Advice Service to provide students leaving the university with advice. In 2024, the Student Advice and Career Service was renamed Student Advice Center and celebrated its 50 year anniversary.
We work closely with a wide network of partners from FAU and beyond, including
- FAU’s University Administration
- Subject advisors at the faculties
- Agentur für Arbeit
- Student advice centers at Bavarian universities
- Schools
By remaining in contact and regularly exchanging ideas with our cooperation partners we can provide you with comprehensive support during your studies.
FAU information days and the “Unitag” project
The FAU information days are held each year in September. High school students can attend more than 70 presentations in Erlangen and Nuremberg and find out all about what FAU has to offer.
FAU is involved in the project “Unitag” to encourage gifted and talented high school students.

Advice at the Faculties
Student Service Centers and/or subject advisors are available at each of the faculties where you can get information on the structure of Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs and how to plan your studies. The Center for Teacher Education (ZfL) offers students from all faculties advice on teaching degree programs (Lehramt).
