Successful startups have a long tradition at FAU. For instance, in 1877, the university mechanic Erwin Moritz Reiniger founded a technical workshop for producing physical, optical and electrical devices. After a merger, this led to the company “Reiniger, Gebbert u. Schall”, founded in 1886. It produced electrical and medical devices. Today, the company could be seen as the precursor to Siemens Healthineers. That is why we at FAU sometimes refer, tongue in cheek, to our “Healthineers” as an FAU startup.
