Open to all: a new MRI for the world

Just recently, in 2023, a team from FAU and Siemens Healthineers received the German Future Prize, the most prestigious German innovation award, in recognition of their innovation “Open to all: a new MRI for the world”.

Researchers, innovators and alumni from FAU have developed solutions that are changing lives across the globe. Examples are:

  • Ernst Arthur Eichengrün, a formal doctoral candidate from FAU, who discovered the active substance in Aspirin, acetylsalicylic acid, and developed a method for its mass production.
  • Emmy Noether, one of the first women to study mathematics at FAU, who set trends in modern algebra and made an important contribution to mathematical physics.
  • A team of FAU and Fraunhofer researchers, who developed the MP3 format, paving the way for modern smartphone and digital audio applications.
