FAU among the best in CHE ranking

FAU’s subjects earth sciences and computer science are in the top group of the Centre for Higher Education’s (CHE) university ranking. In this year’s study, the CHE evaluated the following subjects: computer science, mathematics, physics, pharmacy, political science, medicine, dentistry, nursing science, earth sciences, geography and sports science.

Earth sciences and computer science at FAU were both awarded top marks in three categories. Computer science came top in support from lecturers, completion of the degree programme within a reasonable amount of time, and the number of doctoral degrees, while earth sciences scored highest for the overall course situation, relevance to professional practice, and completion of the degree programme within a reasonable amount of time. This makes FAU one of the best of all the universities evaluated in these subjects.

Geography at FAU also achieved an excellent place in the ranking, receiving top marks for relevance to professional practice and completion of the degree programme within a reasonable amount of time. Pharmacy and sports science also achieved great results in two categories each: completion of the degree programme within a reasonable amount of time and number of academic publications for pharmacy, and relevance to professional practice and number of academic publications for sports science. Mathematics and physics also both came out on top in one category – completion of the degree programme within a reasonable amount of time.

The CHE collects data for its university ranking once a year. One third of the subjects are re-evaluated each time. Information from more than 300 universities and institutes of higher education in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Netherlands is incorporated into the ranking. In addition to data on studying, teaching, equipment and research, the ranking also includes assessments by students regarding the course situation as well as the reputation of the individual schools among the professors of the subjects.
