All subjects particularly strong in the performance indicator “industry”

For the second year running, FAU is included in the THE subject ranking for all eleven subjects that were investigated. Worldwide, it made it into the top 200 for eight subject groups, and within Germany even into the top 20 with all subjects.

In the eight subject groups Arts and Humanities, Clinical and Health, Computer Science, Education, Law, Life Science, Physical Science and Social Science, FAU improved well compared to last year. Computer Science, for example, moved up the international list from rank number 159 to number 142, and law moved up 16 places to place number 145. In the national ranking, four subjects made it into the top 10: Engineering (#7), Business and Economics (#8), Clinical and Health (#9) and Law (#9).

Subjects at FAU did particularly well in relation to the performance indicator “industry”. This is based on third-party funding from industry and the number of patents based on research conducted at FAU.

About the THE subject ranking
The Times Higher Education not only publishes the World University Rankings, but also subject rankings. For these rankings, 11 subject groups from more than 1300 universities from across the globe are evaluated in the areas of teaching, research environment, research quality, industry and international outlook. Similarly to the THE World University Ranking, the THE subject ranking has also changed its methodology this year. For example, performance indicators have been weighted differently and a new indicator has been added, “number of patents based on research at the university.”
