Stopping by Prof. Dr. Kerstin Galler’s office in der Dental Clinic 1 – Tooth Preservation and Periodontology

Each semester, FAU president Prof. Dr. Joachim Hornegger visits professors who have just recently joined FAU. At their respective institutes, he gets to know them better as they talk about their research and share what is important to them.

This series brings a brief introduction of the researcher and allows a peek into such visit by the president.

In episode 11, the President meets with Prof. Dr. Kerstin Galler. She is the Principal of the Chair of Dentistry, Oral and Maxillofacial Medicine, in particular Conservative Dentistry, Periodontology and Pediatric Dentistry here at FAU.

Amongst other topics, Kerstin Galler researches the regeneration of dental pulp, comprised of soft tissue, nerves, blood vessels, and odontoblasts within a tooth. For her work she uses tissue engineering.

As a family dentist, she also dedicates herself to classical dental treatments and check-ups.

Before coming to FAU, Kerstin Galler did research at the University Clinic in Regensburg. There, at the Polyclinic for Conservative Dentistry and Periodontology, she established a new laboratory.

As a researcher who is regularly invited to international congresses to speak, she is able to still her wanderlust and discover new countries for herself.
