Helping international students connect with each other and find their feet at FAU – the International Student Network Nürnberg-Erlangen-Fürth e.V., or ISN for short. ISN is always looking for new members.
About the ISN
The International Student Network Nürnberg-Erlangen-Fürth e.V., ISN-NEF or just ISN for short, is a student group at FAU and an official association. Since 2024, the ISN has been welcoming international students, especially Erasmus students, to FAU and making sure they get off to a good start in Erlangen, Nuremberg and the surrounding area.

Take part in events and meet other students
The ISN works closely with the Central Office for International Affairs and organizes a wide range of events during the entire semester with everything from pub crawls, parties and hiking tours to trips to various cities and outdoor meetups. At the beginning of the semester in particular, the network organizes various get-togethers such as speed friending events or a start of semester party. The aim is to enable new students to quickly make new contacts and feel welcome right from the very beginning.

This summer, ISN students went hiking in Franconian Switzerland, explored Coburg and rediscovered Nuremberg during a photo scavenger hunt.
Reasons why people join the ISN
Nadini studies Data Science and has been a member of the ISN since 2024

Being a member of the ISN is a great opportunity to meet new people and have some fun. The first ISN event I went to was a speed friending event. I didn’t know anyone but by the end of the event I had made several new friends. We played bingo, danced a bit and laughed way too much and then just took it from there. It was like a crash course in having fun with people from all over the world. And the hikes and outings? To be honest, they’re less of an “official” event and more of a “picnic with the coolest crew of international students you can imagine”. The ISN is not just about events, it’s also about sharing inside jokes, spontaneously meeting up to go dancing and meeting people from all corners of the world.

After being abroad myself and experiencing how much the ESN group there did for us as exchange students, I thought it would be a great idea to set up something similar at FAU. The ISN has changed my life at university. The number of people I have got to know through the group is incredible – and not just other members, but also other international students and people outside FAU. It really does make up for all the effort that goes into it.
Andreas studies Biology and has been a member of ISN from the very beginning

My main motivation for joining the ISN was the thought that you can meet an incredible number of people from all different backgrounds. Whether it’s at events we organize or at team events where we go for a relaxing drink somewhere, you can always learn something new about other cultures and other people and the way they think. And I never stop being surprised at how much we all actually have in common. The first time I experienced something similar was when I went along to ESN Ingolstadt with a good friend from home. After this experience, I decided that I wanted to bring this feeling to Erlangen. However, there wasn’t a similar student group here, which is why I looked for like-minded people and we decided to make the ISN what it is today.

How can I get involved?
The ISN is always happy to welcome new members.
