A video has been produced about prospective teaching assistants in the “Inklusive Bildung in Bayern (IBB)” project. It was produced by the Multimedia Center of the RRZE, and it is now available in FAU’s video portal.

In around five and a half minutes, the video explains the background and aim of the project initiated by “Access – Inklusion im Arbeitsleben”, in collaboration with FAU, in which 5 people with disabilities will receive training for teaching at schools and universities until 2027. The video introduces the prospective teaching assistants, accompanies them during their qualification phases and shows images from classes.

One representative from FAU, Prof. Dr. Andreas Hirsch, talks about the project’s goals from the perspective of the university: “We are very glad and very proud to be the first Bavarian university to host this pilot project. We hope that this will enable us to learn and practice a much more authentic and direct way of interacting with people who have a disability on a daily basis.” The impression the teaching assistants make on teaching staff and students also becomes apparent: Prof. Dr. Nicole Kimmelmann (Chair of Business Education at FAU) says that she could give talks about several aspects of life with disability and inclusion, but these insights would, of course, remain very abstract. “The teaching assistants, however, are able to reach people on an emotional level due to their own personal experiences.”

The “Inklusive Bildung Bayern” project

The “Inklusive Bildung Bayern” project qualifies people with cognitive impairments for teaching roles at universities during a period of three years.

The aim is to implement inclusion at Bavarian universities on a permanent basis and to enable the teaching assistants involved to get into the world of work (also in settings close to higher education).
